An energy assessment or energy rating report is a thermal assessment of a building’s envelope using NatHERS (Nationwide House Energy Rating System) software. The software determines the heating and cooling performance and will calculate a rating out of 10 stars. Within Western Australia – as well as most states and territories – the minimum required star rating as outlined within the NCC 2019 (National Construction Code) is 6 stars. All new dwellings, as well as unapproved enclosed structures in the process of retrospective approval, require a minimum 6-star energy rating.
